The recent run of record breaking performances continued on Saturday with four more club records tumbling. This brings the tally of broken records to ten after just three weeks of point score competition.

In bright sunny conditions, the athletes lined up for events on Week 3 of the program which includes Hurdles and the 400m run.

Tessa Gordon set two new records in the U/6 girls with fantastic runs in the 50m sprint and the 150m sprint. Not to be outdone, Tessa's older brother Chad also broke a record, setting a new mark in the U/12 Triple Jump. The last record to fall was the U/13 girls 200m Hurdles. This record was broken in unusual fashion, for it was done on the second attempt. Two athletes, Erin Guy and Talissa Scott, were unable to be seperated at the finish line. What made this feat so unusual was the fact that the race had just been re-run due to an earlier timer malfunction. Congratulations to all four athletes for an outstanding performance.

Once again the parent volunteers who assisted with Age Managing and packing away of the equipment at the end of the day did and outstanding job.

It was also good to see so many people heeding the "sunsafe" message. Many people took advantage of the sunscreen available for use at the canteen during club competition.

Kiama Little Athlete, Samantha Broadhead, yesterday took out Bronze in the U/12 age division at the Athletics NSW State Cross-Country on the testing "Wilandra" course near Nowra. Samantha was also awarded Silver as the second highest placed Country based athlete. Running for the Illawarra Blue Stars Club during the winter months, the performance came hot on the heels of her 5th placing in the South Coast PSSA Regional Cross-Country on the same course one week earlier. With the LAANSW State Cross-Country and NSW PSSA State Cross-Country fast approaching, it is sure to be a busy month for the talented 11year old.
For athletes wishing to hone their skills during the winter months or prepare for the upcoming school athletics season, the Illawarra Blue Stars hold their "Winter Track & Field" Series on the fourth sunday of each month at Beaton Park Liesure Centre, Wollongong. Athletes of all ages are welcome.

Samantha Broadhead
Bronze Medalist
Kiama Little Athletes, Tanya Poppett, Lara Hindmarsh & Sarah Broadhead, competed against some of the best young athletes NSW has to offer today at the LAANSW State Cross-Country & Road Walks.

The events were held on the picturesque grounds of the University of Western Sydney, Campbelltown, and proved to be an excellent test of the athlete's speed and endurance over courses of varying length featuring some challenging hill sections.

Tanya's effort was outstanding, finishing 4th in the U/13 1500m Walk and 14th in the 2000m Cross-Country. Lara finished 21st in the U/14 3000m Cross-Country whilst Sarah placed 12th in the U/10 1200m Walk.

Both Tanya and Lara will be competing later this month in the NSWCHS (schools) State Cross-Country at Gosford and todays races will have provided them with valuable experience running against top class athletes. Sarah's effort comes on the back of her 4th place finish in the Athletics NSW Short Course Walk Championships held last weekend at Chipping Norton.

Samantha Broadhead unfortunately had to withdraw before the event after being struck down with the flu.

The 2005-06 season will get underway on Saturday 17th September. The move to Saturday mornings comes after difficulties encountered last season running events on Friday evenings prior to daylight saving. Weeks 1,2 & 3 will be treated as "orientation days" with full pointscore beginning in week 4. This will give both athletes and their parents an opportunity to be instructed in all events on our program.

Competition will then move back to the traditional Friday evenings on Novemeber 11th for the remainder of the season. The committee looks forward to seeing all new and returning athletes in September.
The committee of Kiama LAC has secured some much needed funding from the LAANSW Centre Grant Scheme to purchase some new equipment for the upcoming season. This summer we will have a new set of High Jump mats replacing those which were burnt by vandals 2 years ago as well as a full set of Hurdles for the use of our athletes. (We are currently borrowing hurdles from St Georges Basin LAC) Other fund raising efforts have also allowed for the purchase of other equipment. The canteen has undergone a re-fit and a lockable shed has been erected for storage of our equipment. 2005-2006 looks likely to be a bumper season for Kiama LAC.
Several Kiama Little Athletes performed well at the recent NSWCHS & PSSA Cross Country events held at Gosford Racecourse. Representing the South Coast Region from Kiama High School was AJ Forrest, Ashleigh Scott, Lara Hindmarsh and Tanya Poppett. All four girls were members of successful school teams in the U/16, U/15 & U/14 age groups. Ashleigh was part of the U/15 team which won GOLD, while AJ was part of the U/16 team which finished with SILVER. Lara and Tanya were part of the U/14 team which also won SILVER.

Also representing South Coast in the PSSA U/11 event was Samantha Broadhead from Gerringong Public School. Samantha finished in 22nd place overall and her regional team was narrowly beaten for the Bronze medal by just 1 point.

Congratulations must go out to all 5 girls for their exceptional performance!!

Kiama Little Athletics Centre won three prestigeous awards at the 2005 NSW Little Athletics Annual Conference held in Port MacQuaurie on the weekend. Kiama was firstly presented with a Bronze Award for operational efficiency. This award is presented to Centres to recognise those who demonstrate good volunteer management practices and achievements. Kiama also took out both Centre Registration Awards, the Athlete Retention Award and the Athlete Increase Award. These awards are presented to the Centres that exhibit outstanding athlete retention rate from one season to the next and the largest increase in number of registered athletes. This was the first time in 35 years that one Centre has won both of these Centre Registration Awards in the same year. These awards are a credit to the members of Kiama LAC committee, rewarding their hard work in bringing our Centre back from the brink of folding. They should feel justifiably proud of this acheivement as should all the parents who helped during the season.

Congratulations Kiama LAC!!

The first club day of the 2005-06 season is finally upon us, kicking off at 9am this Saturday the 17th of September. The move to Saturday mornings comes after difficulties encountered last season running events on Friday evenings prior to daylight saving. Weeks 1,2 & 3 will be treated as "orientation days" with full pointscore beginning in  week 4. This will give athletes and their parents an opportunity to be instructed in all events on our program.

We ask that parents have all athletes at the Kiama Leisure Centre playing fields by no later than 8:45am to allow them adequate time to warm up.

Well season 2005-06 is finally underway and we were blessed with warm Spring sunshine for our first club day. With registration numbers nearing 150 athletes, it was pleasing to see so many children competing despite some unfortunate clashes with other sporting codes.

The Kiama Little Athletics Committee would like to welcome our new athlete families and also welcome back our returning athlete families. Thanks to all those parents who volunteered to help out with setting up and packing away of the equipment and especially to those who performed the Age Managers role and helped officiate at events. We couldn't do it without you.
Athletes and parents eagerly waiting for the start of the new season.
Kiama Little A's Racewalker, Sarah Broadhead (pictured at right) has won two GOLD medals at the Racewalking Australia Carnival & Athletics NSW Short Walks held in Sydney over the weekend. The events were hosted by the Regal Racewalkers Club and featured some of Australia's best junior and senior Racewalkers including Olympian Natalie Saville (sister of Jane) and Commonwealth Games hopeful, Troy Sundstrom.

Sarah, who only began Racewalking in January this year, competed in the U/12 1km division for both the Regal Racewalkers & Illawarra Blue Stars on the day as the two events were held in conjunction with each other. Competing for Regal in the Racewalking Australia Carnival, the ten year old finished the riverside course in 7th place overall but was elevated to 1st on corrected time after handicaps were applied. This mean't the Illawarra Blue Stars club member also finished in 5th place in the Athletics NSW Short Walks and 1st in the NSW Country division, being the best placed Country athlete. These results followed on from her 4th placing at the Athletics NSW Long Walks in June.

All Kiama Little Athletes are reminded that a Racewalk event will be held at 8:40am this Saturday for those athletes wishing to try out this demanding event.

Racewalker Sarah Broadhead in action
It was another magnificent spring day yesterday as our three week "Orientation" came to a close. Judging from comments made by parents and athletes alike, the move to Saturday mornings for the pre-daylight savings period has been a positive one. Now that our athletes and parents have had an opportunity to be instructed in all events on the program, the first club pointscore day for the 2005-06 season will be held next saturday, October 8th.

For those new to our Centre, the aim of the pointscore system is to encourage all athletes to improve their own personal best efforts. This means that the athletes are not directly competing against one another for points. Each time they break their own personal best for an event, they are awarded a point. Please
click here for a more detailed explaination of the pointscore system.
Parents are reminded that we prefer all athletes to be at the Kiama Leisure Centre playing fields by no later than 8:45am to allow them adequate time to warm up. Warming up is essential to enable the athletes to compete at their best and avoid injury.

Parents are also reminded that they are to remain at the field whilstever their children are competing, and that Kiama Little Athletics competition is a Non Smoking event.
Kiama Little A's today hosted a Little Athletics NSW Athlete Development Clinic where two highly qualified coaches ran thirty eight enthusiatic little  athletes through their paces. The day was a great success with the athletes participating in several sessions covering a number of different disciplines involving Running, Jumping and Throwing.

The children received instruction on events such as Long Jump, Discus, Hurdles, Shot Put, High Jump and Sprints whilst several parents also participated and learnt basic skills to assist with coaching of their children.

LAANSW Coach Alvin Umadhay said, "The athletes responded really well to what was in some cases, an entirely new experience. The kids were very well behaved and (coach) Belinda and I are looking forward to returning to do it all again next season."

Each athlete was presented with a certificate and a drink bottle at the end of the day and all looked forward to putting their newly acquired skills into practice at Club pointscore competition and Carnivals.

Three records were broken today as Kiama Little Athletics 2005-06 pointscore got underway.  Janaya Zivkovic broke records in the U/14 Long Jump and 100m sprint whilst last year's Dean Blair Trophy winner, Talissa Scott also broke the U/13 Long Jump record. Janya has joined us from Lake Illawarra this season and is quite an outstanding young athlete. Highest amongst her achievments is representing NSW at the Australian Little Athletics Championships last season.

Despite athlete numbers being lower due to the school holidays, there was still some healthy competition in most age groupings. Week 1 is a very challenging program where athletes contest distance running events and sprint events as well as two field events. With the pulsating beat of rock music drifting across from the skate park, our athletes ran, jumped and threw their hearts out.

Congratulations must again go out to those parents who stepped up and took on the Age Managers role. The program ran very smoothly and it's largely because of the excellent job done by the parent volunteers. Without you, we couldn't run our Centre.  Thanks also to those parents who assisted with collection and packing away of the equipment at the end of the day.

Entries will close on the 18th October for the 2006 Trans-Tasman Challenge. Any U/11 or U/12 athletes who would like to try out for the  Challenge are invited to attend trials at Campbelltown on 6th November 2005. A LAANSW team will fly to New Zealand in January and compete against athletes from the Auckland region on the Trans-Tasman Tour.  The 12 day tour also includes visits to many attractions in and around  the Auckland area and will be a once in a lifetime experience for those kids who make the trip. Two Kiama athletes, Talissa Scott and Samantha Broadhead, were members of the 2005 Challenge Team which competed at the Sydney Olympic Park track in Homebush. Further information about the Trans-Tasman Tour can be found on the LAANSW website. A link to their website can be found in the "Web Links" section of this site.

Any athletes who would like to be part of a team and compete at the upcoming LAANSW State Relays are asked to inform a member of the committee as soon as possible so numbers can be assessed to decide whether there is enough interest for us to enter teams.

A new section will soon be added to this website where anybody who has something to sell related to Little Athletics (uniforms, shoes or equipment etc...) can list their items and details for people to get in touch with them.
Four Kiama Little Athletes braved the blustery conditions yesterday and made the trip to Warilla for the annual October Carnival held by the Lake Illawarra Litttle Athletics Centre.

They were Keeleigh McCauley, Kirsten Nash, Sarah Broadhead (pictured) and Samantha Broadhead.

All four athletes managed to return with at least one medal hanging around their neck with both Keeleigh McCauley and Kirsten Nash taking gold.

An amazing six records were broken during Saturday's Little A's competition following on from the three broken last weekend.  Janaya Zivkovic again broke a number of records in the U/14's whilst Erin Guy, Alexis Smith and Chad Gordon also broke records in their respective age groups. Janaya broke the TripleJump, 80m Hurdles and 200m sprint records with Erin also breaking the U/13 80m Hurdles record. Alexis broke the U/15 TripleJump record whilst Chad broke the U/12 200m sprint record. It's amazing to think that after just two weeks of competiton we have had five of our athletes break a total of nine records. Congratulations to each of you.

With so many records falling the Committee would like to take this opportunity to remind our Age Managers that they need to verify all records with a club official. The club official will then countersign the result sheet.

Thanks again to the parent volunteers who assisted with Age Managing and packing away of the equipment at the end of the day.

With the weather warming up, parents and athletes are advised to be sunsafe. Sunscreen is available at the canteen during club competition.

The Mid South Coast Zone Grand Prix is a series of events contested at four local carnivals held between November and February. Athletes are awarded points based on their performance in Grand Prix events with the highest point scorer in each age group declared the winner of the Grand Prix at the completion of the final carnival. Details of the Grand Prix can be found on www.geocities.com/midsouthzone

We encourage all Kiama Little Athletes to support the Grand Prix.

The first Mid South Coast Grand Prix carnival, The St Georges Basin Dragon Derby will be held on the 13th November at Sanctuary Point Oval, Sanctuary Point.
A cool sea breeze and cloudy skies provided ideal conditions yesterday for Kiama Little A's penultimate Saturday morning point score. There is no doubt that this was something that pleased those athletes in the age groups drawn to run the 1500m or 3000m and it showed in their good results.

There was another record broken in the U/6 Shot Put and some excellent performances in the U/10 High Jump as well as the U/9 High Jump.

Once again there were plenty of parents willing to lend a hand, especially with the U/7's who continue to be our most enthusiastic group week after week.  A big thank you from all on the committee!!

Don't forget that there is a Race Walk training event being run prior to Club next week at 8:40am. We had three representitives at State last season and it would be great to do it again this season. We invite all interested athletes to come and try this unique and challenging event. Who knows, you might turn out to be the next Jane Saville or Nathan Deakes??!!

Several Kiama Little Athletes were successful at the  PSSA State Championships this week but none more so than Gerringong's Erin Guy who won GOLD and SILVER in the U/12 LongJump and 100m sprint. Erin also finished 5th in the 200m sprint final.

Others to fair well were Keeleigh McCauley, Abbie Taddeo and Chad Gordon who all made finals in their respective events.

Erin, along with Talissa Scott, Samantha Broadhead and Lauren Farquhar also made the semi-finals of the Senior girls 4x100m relay . Chad Gordon was also a semi-finalist in the 200m sprint.

Alanna Smith also competed in the Junior girls 4x100m relay and Joe Knott the Senior boys Discus.

Well done to all nine athletes on their acheivments.

It's now 7 weeks since the start of the season and we have enjoyed a tremendous start. It's great to see so many athletes and adults enjoying themselves during our weekly competitions. The assistance we have received from everybody thus far has been fantastic and the Age Managers have been doing a wonderful job. We have finally had an opportunity to produce our first newsletter which you can access by clicking on the link below. We hope you enjoy reading it and find the information it contains of interest. If you have any questons relating to the newsletter, or Little Athletics in general, please email us by clicking the "Contact Us" button on the control panel or alternatively by asking a Committee member.

Two of our Under 12's, Chad Gordon and Samantha Broadhead, competed today against over 140 of the State's best athletes in the Trans-Tasman trials, conducted at Campbelltown City Stadium. It has been a busy week for Chad and Samantha after both competed mid-week at the PSSA State Championships.

The 11 year olds from Gerringong were trialling for a place on the Little Athletics NSW Team which will tour New Zealand in January 2006 and compete in the annual Trans-Tasman Challenge. It is the 30th anniversary of the Challenge and both athletes performed very well, posting some "top ten" finishes in their events and stand a very good chance of being selected in the Challenge Team to be announced on November 14th.

Fellow Kiama athlete, Simon Meaney,  was unable to trial after sustaining a leg injury but will still be able join the Tour party heading over "the ditch" on the 5th January.

Good luck Chad and Samantha!!
Overnight rain made it tough going for our athletes on Saturday at the last morning point score competition of the season. The slippery surface might have made things difficult but young Joel Taddeo made a mockery of the conditions by setting a new record in the U/15 100m Hurdles.  Joining Joel in setting a new mark was Alexis Smith who also ignored the conditions to post a record in the U/15 Triple Jump.

Well done Alexis and Joel!!

With the sun occasionally poking it's nose through the clouds, the humidity started to rise making it very hot and sticky for those running in the 800m. Despite this, some good performances were put in and it is very pleasing to see those athletes who were struggling to complete the middle distance events just a few weeks ago have now improved and are finding it much easier.

Thanks again go out to the parent volunteers, for without your help we would not be able to run our club days so smoothly.

Remember, competition returns to Friday nights this week!!

U/15 100m Hurdles record

Kiama Little A's competition moved back to it's traditional Friday evening last week, with over 120 athletes in attendance. In near perfect weather conditions, the athletes contested events on "Week 3" of the program which includes 60m Hurdles, 200m Hurdles and the testing 400m run.

There was plenty of healthy competition and good performances in all age groups, with a general improvement evident all around.

A reminder that we will be running a BBQ at the Kiama Seaside Markets this Sunday on the 20th November and we are seeking the assistance of parent volunteers to help out. This is our major fundraiser for the year, so if you can help, please see a committee member during club on Friday night or contact the Secretary, Janet, on 4234 2094.The parent volunteers have been doing an excellent job this season and your help has been greatly appreciated.
A team of 12 Kiama Little athletes travelled south to Sanctuary Point for the St Georges Basin/Sanctuary Point Little Athletics Centre's 13th annual Dragon Derby Carnival today. Some very good results were recorded with several of our team producing Personal Best efforts and returning with a bagfull of medals. Kiama athletes participated in the U/8, U/9, U/10, U/11, U/12, U/13 & U/15 age groupings and all did our Centre proud.

Leading the medal tally for Kiama was Kelsey Wishart and Kirsten Nash who both had outstanding an carnival. Others to do well were Alanna Smith, Rydge Smith, Sarah Broadhead, Samantha Broadhead, Abbie Taddeo, Tanya Poppett, Alysse Smith, Mitchell Scott, Riley Wishart and Alexis Smith.

This was close to our best representation at a Grand Prix carnival for many years and I am sure that as word gets out, more Kiama athletes will participate in future Carnivals. Results will be posted when they become available.

Click here for photos from the day.
Mother Nature has been smiling on us all season long and tonight again was no exception!!   Glorious sunshine and a cool seabreeze made conditions just right for athletes contesting the 1500m and pack start events featured on "Week 1" of the program.  Once again it was evident just how much some athletes have improved, even in the past three weeks since we last ran those events. Well done kids!

It seems the parent volunteers are getting better at running the events too, with the Tiny Tots being Age Managed by parents for the first time this year. Some may have noticed a rather large "Not so Tiny Tot" contesting the 100m last night?  Well we're happy to say he's doing well after medical treatment... (just joking kids!!)

A reminder that Kiama Little A's is holding a fundraiser BBQ on Sunday at Kiama Seaside Markets. This is our major fundraiser for this season so please support the BBQ by either dropping down to lend a hand or  dropping down to by some of the delicious treats on offer!!
This week, 3 Kiama Little Athletes, Samantha Broadhead,
Chad Gordon & Simon Meaney, were named in the LAANSW Trans Tasman Team to tour New Zealand in January 2006. It was a great reward for these athletes who have worked hard to gain selection in the Team. Chad and Samantha recently competed in selection trials at Campelltown City Stadium but Simon was unable to trial after sustaining a leg injury.  Despite missing the trials, Simon will still be able join the Tour party heading over "the ditch" on the 5th January. Congratulations Samantha, Chad and Simon!!

The families of all three athletes are planning to do some fundraising over the next few weeks to assist covering the costs of participating on the Tour so please support a once in a lifetime experience for these kids. Congratulations to Erin Guy who was the winner of the "Toyworld" voucher last night and thanks to Toyworld Kiama for their generous donation.
Samantha Broadhead, Chad Gordon and Simon Meaney who have been selected in the LAANSW Trans Taman Team to tour New Zealand in January 2006.
Once again we lucked out with the weather with a bright sunny afternoon punctuating storms on Friday morning and again on Friday night. The athletics facilities at Kiama Leisure Centre are excellent and the drainage supurb so those athletes who turned up enjoyed firm dry conditions to compete in.

Three weeks ago we brought you a story about Joel Taddeo and Alexis Smith breaking the U/15 100m Hurdles and Triple Jump records. Today history repeated itself with both athletes again setting new marks in these events. In fact, this is the third straight time Alexis has broken the Triple Jump record! Joining Joel in breking the old 100m Hurdle mark was Sam Knott but Joel just pipped him on the line to take first place and claim another space in the record book.  Well Done Joel, Alexis and Sam.

Good luck to those athletes competing at State Relays on Sunday.
Pictured is Alexis Smith who broke the U/15 Triple Jump record for the third consecutive time
Rain, Rain & more Rain fell on the Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre today as the LAANSW State Relay Championships were held.  One could be excused for thinking we were next door at the Swim Centre with the amount of water on the track but it didn't seem to dampen the enthusiasm of the athletes as they strived for gold.

Kiama once again joined forces with the Shoalhaven, St Georges Basin & Milton-Ulladulla Centres to form a Mid South Coast team and contest several Field Relays. Of the fifteen Kiama athletes to take part, six returned with a shiny new medal around their neck.

Erin Guy and Talissa Scott won GOLD in the U/13 4x Long/High Jump, Sarah Broadhead won BRONZE in the U/11 4x Long/High Jump and  Allana Smith, Riley Wishart & Keeleigh McCauley won BRONZE in the U/9 4x Long Jump.

Others to compete strongly despite the difficult conditions were Justin Dowsell U/14, Abbie Taddeo & Samantha Broadhead U/12, Kirsten Nash, Melissa Mendicino & Zoe Hodgekiss-Gargett U/10, Mitchell Scott & Sean Fox U/9 and Kelsey Wishart U/8.
Congratulations to Erin Guy, Talissa Scott, Sarah Broadhead, Alanna Smith, Keeleigh McCauley and Riley Wishart for their medal winning performances at State Relays.
If anyone involved with Kiama Little Athletics was ever thinking of buying a Lotto ticket, then today would probably be the day to do it. Several days of rain early in the week saw Council close all sporting grounds,  but fairer weather on Thursday and Friday saw them re-opened just 3 hours before our Club pointscore was to begin. Then less than 30min after completion of the final event, the heavens opened with a severe thunder storm sweeping across the ground! Last season saw us lose 4 out of our first 8 weeks to rain but this season we've had 12 weeks of competition without losing a single one.  By comparison, the Shoalhaven Centre which runs on a Tuesday night has been cancelled on several occasions.

"Week 3" on the program is hurdles night and the strong breeze preceeding the storm proved to be a real problem with several hurdles being continually blown over. In the end, a decision was made to turn them around and run the races in the reverse direction, allowing competiton to continue. The wind also made for tough going in the 400m races with athletes having to run into the breeze down the back straight. Once again the parent volunteers did an excellent job getting the equipment away before the storm hit.

A reminder that next weekend's Albion Park Gala Day at the Croome Road Sporting Complex is the 2nd round of the Mid South Coast Grand Prix. Kiama athletes did very well at the 1st round in St Georges Basin and it would be great to see the "Lime Greens" there in good numbers again.  Good luck to those athletes competing at the Wollongong City Gala Day on Sunday.
Pictured is Olivia Blunden and Aylah Peterson during the U/8 girls 60m Hurdles
A total of 5 club records were broken on Friday night at club pointscore, 4 of those in the senior Javelin events alone!  Brenden Smith in the U/13's, Tanya Poppett in the U/14's and Alexis Smith & Joel Taddeo in the U/15's all set new marks in the Javelin whilst Janya Zivkovic broke her own record in the U/14 100m sprint. This takes the tally of club records broken this season to over 20.

Congratulations to Anne Rogers who won the Rebel Sport Gift Voucher as 1st prize in the raffle to support our Trans Tasman athletes. Congratulations also to Kim Hammond & Janet Poppett who won the minor prizes of a Rugby Ball and Soccer Ball. Thanks to Rebel Sport Shellharbour and Kiama Cycle & Sport for their generous donations.
A small contingent of Kiama Little A's today travelled to the John O'Dwyer Oval at the Croome Road Sporting Complex, Albion Park for the 2nd round of the Mid South Coast Grand Prix. The Gala Day event, hosted by the Albion Park LAC saw athletes from as far away as Shoalhaven and Sydney in attendance with trophies on offer for Feature Events in each age group.

The "Lime Greens" were outstanding with several Kiama athletes figuring amongst the medals, including Alexis Smith, Janaya Zivkovic and Keeleigh McCauley who all set new Carnival Records in the U/15 High Jump, U/15 200m sprint and U/9 200m sprint respectively. Others to medal included, Kirsten Nash, Alannah Smith, Hayden Moon, Rydge Smith, Brianna Rogers, Alysse Smith, Ciara Rogers & Tanya Poppett. With the Zone Championships just a few weeks away, it would seem Kiama athletes will figure highly in the medal count. Congratulations to all those who competed.

Pics from the day are available in the "Photo Gallery".

This year has been a great one for Kiama Little A's both on and off the track and another glorious summer evening was the perfect way to finish 2005 off before heading into the Xmas break.

The athletes arrived eager to start the final night of competition knowing Santa's helpers had dropped into Kiama early to leave a little gift for them, a bag of lollies and a drink, which provided them with plenty of incentive to get through their events!! Prior to the start of events, twelve athletes were presented with ribbons for breaking 10 PB's and three others for breaking 5 PB's.  The warm conditions made the 800m and 200m events tough and the setting sun provided an obstacle for those participating in the High Jump late in the evening. Despite this, another four records were broken making this one of our most successful club seasons ever... Tayla Bowman in the U/6 Discus, Chad Gordon in the U/12 200m sprint, Talissa Scott the U/13 Triple Jump and Lara Hindmarsh in the U/15 90m Hurdles.  And to think the season is only half over!!

Thanks again to the parent volunteers who have been magnificent this year. We couldn't do it without your help, so once again, thanks.

On behalf of the committee of Kiama Little Athletics, I would like to wish all athletes and their families a very Merry Xmas and Safe and Happy New Year!!

See you in 2006!!

It was an unusually quiet night at Kiama Little A's tonight with many athletes missing due to anniversary celebrations at a local Public School.  Those who did attend found the conditions very much to their liking with a nice sea breeze easing the hot temperatures from earlier in the day.

On the track, the records keep on tumbling, with another four being broken in a variety of events. Jack Diener broke the U/8 60m Hurdles record, Rydge Smith the U/7 Discus whilst Talissa Scott added another two to her tally by breaking the High Jump and 200m Hurdles records. The amount of records broken this season now excedes 40 and a some of the credit must go to Gary Poppett and Craig Scott who have spent countless hours preparing the field each week allowing the athletes to perform at their best.

Club President, Craig Scott, took time out to thank several parents and Club Officials for their contribution to the Regional Championships. It really was great to see everybody pitch in and enhance Kiama Little A's already good reputation amongst neighbouring Centres.Without the parent volunteers, out Centre could not function.

Next weekend will see seven Kiama athletes travel to Cessnock for the State Multi Event Championships. The Committee would like to wish them GOOD LUCK.  Club pointscore will still be run as per normal.
It was a BIG weekend for Kiama's Little Athletes with several records broken at Club Pointscore and some excellent performances at the State Multi Event in Cessnock.

Whilst 7 of their clubmates were on route to the Hunter Valley,  Rydge Smith, Brendon Smith, Alysse Smith, Tanya Poppett and Joel Taddeo were breaking records left, right and center!

Rydge broke his own U/7 Discus mark, Brendon the U/13 Javelin & 3000m run records, Alysse the U/13 Javelin record, Tanya the U/14 Javelin record and Joel the U/15 Javelin & 3000m records.  With just 1 more week of Club pointscore to go, it is a big possibility that we will see in excess of 50 records broken for the season!

Our athletes who travelled to Cessnock participated in a two day carnival where they contested events in a number of different disciplines. The carnival is the 2nd largest on the Little Athletics calendar and saw over 1100 athletes from all over NSW in attendance. The quality of competition was extremely high and our athletes did us proud coming home with 2 "top ten" placings and 3 "top twenty" placings.
Parents and athletes are reminded that this Friday, 10th March will be the final night of Club Pointscore competition. There will be a 1 week break for the State Track & Field Championships and then the annual Presentation Night will be held at the Kiama Leisure Centre Fields at 5:30pm, Friday 24th March. Check this website for more information on the Presentation as it draws nearer.

The  Kiama Little Athletics AGM will be held Friday 31st March at the Kiama Leisure Centre Fields at 6:30pm. The Committee has appreciated the excellent job the parent volunteers have done this season so it would be great to see some of those parents step up and take on a Committe role, bringing with them new ideas to make our Club even better than it is now. Check this website for more information on the AGM as it draws nearer.
With so many Athletes breaking in excess of 10 PB's and records falling weekly, the winner of the coveted Dean Blair Memorial Trophy is sure to go down to the wire. Last years winner, Talissa Scott, is again in contention as are several other athletes who have been blitzing their PB's week after week. At seasons close, the athlete with the highest Pointscore tally is declared the winner. The winner is also awarded the prestigous #1 rego number for the following season. As it stands it could be any one of a number of athletes who gets to add their name to the list of winners engraved on the Trophy.

Please click the link in the "About Us" section for details of the Dean Blair Memorial Trophy.
Well it's hard to believe, but Friday night saw the final club competition for 2005-06. Several athletes were obviously determined to finish the season on a high as several PB's were broken along with 7 more club records!

Tessa & Chad Gordon made it a family affair with Tessa breaking the U/6 200m sprint record and Chad setting a new mark in the U/12 High Jump.  Janaya Zivkovic and Talissa Scott then rounded out their preperations for next weeks State Track & Field Championships by breaking 5 records between them!   Janaya broke both the U/14 80m Hurdles and 200m sprint records whilst Talissa went one better by breaking the U/13 Triple Jump record as well as the 80m Hurdles and 200m sprint records

In an amazing season, there have been 48 club records broken since competition began in October. We have also seen a record number (in excess of 70) of athletes,  awarded for breaking 5 or more PB's during the season.

Congratulations to all athletes on a fine season.

Thanks must go to our hard working Committee and parent volunteers for making this season such a success. Well done!
Pictured is U/13 athlete Alysse Smith who broke PB's in all four of her events on Friday night.
Kiama's three State Reps, Chad Gordon, Samantha Broadhead & Simon Meaney will fly out to New Zealand tomorrow in their quest to help NSW retain the Trans Tasman Challenge Trophy.

The Trans Tasman teammates will also compete in three lead up carnivals and visit many tourist attractions during the whirlwind 12 day tour of the Auckland area.

It is only the second time Kiama LAC has had athletes selected for Trans Tasman and the first time anyone from Kiama LAC has toured New Zealand. The kids will be accompanied by Chad's father Andrew Gordon who will be the Tour Party's First Aid Officer.

Chad will contest the U/12 100m, 200m, 400m and High Jump. Competing in her second Trans Tasman Challenge, Samantha will contest the U/12 800m, 1500m and Long Jump whilst Simon will contest the U/11 100m, 200m and Long Jump.

We wish all three competitors Good Luck and hope they can return with some shiny medals around their necks!
Welcome to 2006!!

After a short break for Xmas and New Year,
Kiama Little Athletics competition will resume on Black Friday, the 13th January. With just a few weeks to the Zone Championships, it is important for the athletes to return to competition to hone their skills in their chosen events.

The third round of the Mid South Coast Grand Prix Series, The Lake Illawarra Summer Carnival , will be held on Sunday the 15th January. This will be a great opportunity for athletes to experience Carnival competition prior to Zone. Whilst pre-entries have closed, entries will be taken on the day. Information about the Summer Carnival can be found at
www.lilac.coolrunning.com.au

We will be hosting a group of Little Athletes from the Douglas Park Little Athletics Centre on Friday the 20th January as they take part in their innaugrial "Day at the Beach". Up to 20 athletes of various ages will spend the day picnicing on one of Kiama's glorious beaches before heading up to the Leisure Centre to join us for our nightly competition. Please join us in making them feel welcome.  An opportunity will exist in late February for some of our athletes to visit the Highlands to compete with Douglas Park. More information will be available soon.

We look forward to seeing you all back on the 13th.

After a perfect start to the season weather wise, we unfortunately lost our first night of competition for 2006 to persistant rain. With more rain falling this week we will be hoping the better weather predicted for Friday materialises. At this stage, the Leisure Centre fields are still open and it looks likely we will be running club competition as normal.

Joining us will be a group of Little Athletes from the Douglas Park LAC. Up to 20 athletes of various ages will first spend the day picnicking on Jones Beach before heading up to join us for our nightly competition. Please join us in making them feel welcome.

An opportunity will exist in late February for some of our athletes to visit the Highlands to compete with Douglas Park. More information will be available soon.
Entries close on 1st Feb for the State Multi Event to be held at Turner Park, Cessnock over the weekend of 4th-5th March. Hundreds of athletes from all over NSW will participate in the annual Championships. This is a great carnival and we encourage all athletes to participate. Last season Kiama had six athletes make the trek to Dubbo and they returned with one medal and  three "top ten" places between them.

Entry is available to athletes from U/7 to U/15 who will contest up to 6 events each (depending on age group).Entries must be done through the your Centre. If you are interested, please see a committee member before the 30th January.
Kiama Little A's returned to the track last night for the first time in 2006, playing host to 17 athletes from the Douglas Park Centre. They were visiting the Kiama area for a picnic at Jones' Beach and took the opportunity to join us for a run before their club competition resumes in February.

This seemed to spur on some of the Kiama kids as they broke 7 club records in the hot and humid conditions. Talissa Scott broke the U/13 High Jump & 200m Hurdles records, Chad Gordon the U12 Triple Jump, Rydge Smith the U/7 Discus, Janaya Zivkovic the U/14 200m Hurdles and Lara Hindmarsh the U/15 200m Hurdles. Hayden Moon and Jack Diener also equalled the existing U/8 60m Hurdles mark in a dead heat finish.

Last night also marked the return to competition of our 3 NSW reps after their sucessful tour of New Zealand. A report and results from their trip will be posted on this site shortly.

A reminder that their is NO CLUB COMPETITION next Friday night, 27th January due to the Zone Championships. The club would like to wish all athletes competing at Zone good luck. See you all back on Friday 3rd February.

The Championships, run at the Mingara Regional Athletics Track in Tumbi Umbi,  were held in scorching conditions and saw athletes from all areas of Country NSW in attendance.

Kiama was also runner-up for the second year in a row in the "Dean Blair Trophy" which is awarded to the team with the highest  overall point score.

Those athletes who will be going to the Regional Championships will contest a total of 68 events in 13 age groups over the course of the two day carnival. Kiama will also supply a number of officials to assist with the running of the Championships.

Congratulations must go to the Mid South Coast Zone Co-ordinator, Peter Cotter, who along with hosts, Sholahaven Little Athletics ran an excellent carnival. Congratulations must also go to Craig Scott, Stacey Scott, Garry Poppett, Graham Nash and Kathy Rice for the excellent jobs they did as Kiama's official representatives.  Thanks also to the parent volunteers who assisted on events.

Friday night saw athletes return to club point score after last week's  break and a high standard of competition was again evident. Prior to competition, two more athletes were awarded ribbons for achieving 10 Personal Bests and another one for achieving 5 PB's.

Five more club records were broken in conditions perfect for athletics. Tanya Poppett continued her excellent run of form, setting a new mark in the U/14 1500m. Janya Zivkovic too continued her stellar season, breaking her own U/15 Long Jump record. Erin Guy celebrated her return to the track by breaking the U/13 Long Jump record, with Talissa Scott also beating the old mark. Several athletes also took the opportunity to use Friday's competition as preperation for the Regional Championships which are just two weeks away.  With just one more club night before the Championships, it was the last chance for a hit out at certain events. Next week the program rolls around to "Week 2" with the senior Hurdles, 800m and 200m races.
Tess Gordon and Jaryd Hodgekiss-Gargett lead the way in the U/7 500m race.

It was another great summers night for Friday's club competition as the athletes contested the events on "Week 2" of the program. Some excellent performances in the Hurdles and 200m sprint events saw more club records tumble. Talissa Scott also got in on the act breaking the (U/13) 80m Hurdles and Triple Jump records.

Earlier in the night, more athletes were awarded ribbons for achieving 10 PB's during the season. This is a great effort and those athletes who have achieved this mark should be very proud of themselves for showing consistant improvement.

A reminder there will be NO Club competition this Friday, 17th Feb due to the Regional Championships. Kiama Little A's would like to wish all athletes competing at Region GOOD LUCK!!

Our team of 24 athletes won a total of 28 medals, with 8 athletes qualifying for the LAANSW State Track & Field Championships to be held at the Olympic Park Athletics Centre on the 18th-19th March. Not a bad effort at all for a club with such a small number of registered athletes!
