The Kiama Centre hosted the Mid South Coast
Zone Championships on the weekend of the 29th
and 30th of January in glorious conditions.  The
misfortune of the December washout and
unavailability of the Kiama Leisure Centre Playing
Fields were a distant memory as the athletes
competed on the manicured track at Shoalhaven
High School.

Kiama had 27 athletes in action over the
weekend and 19 have qualified for the Regional
Championships to be held in Forbes on the 19th
and 20th of February 2011.

The older girls led the way with Larni Cowgill (3
gold, 1 silver) and Alice Hewitt (2 gold, 1 silver, 1
bronze) performing well.  Other athletes to qualify
for Region were Ella Cleal-Cook, Isabelle
Cramp-Miller, Ella Patterson, Daisy Pring, Charlotte
Bett, Isabelle Dalli, Maguire Page, Audrey Pring,
Ebonie Lynch, Emily Robinson, Byron Bennett, Dimitri Semos, Kyle Bennett, Thomas Bell, Michael Robinson, Ewan Bell and Elijah Nile.

Congratulations go to Under 7 medallists Georgia McAlister, Hunter Lynch, Hudson Boatswain and Kurtis Bennett.  This Age Group does not progress to Region and were presented with stylish medals from Little Athletics NSW..

Once again Mother Nature has forced us to postpone Little Athletics due to the condition of the track and surrounds.  The incessant rain had the field looking more like a swimming pool mid week.  The forecast for next week is not good either.  With the Zone Championships scheduled for the 11th and 12th of December at Kiama we need this rain to stop.  Rain, rain go away.......
Our Centre is part of the Mid South Coast
Zone.  The “Zone” comprises of seven (7)
Centres - Albion Park, Kiama, Lake
Illawarra, Milton Ulladulla, Shoalhaven,
St Georges Basin and Sussex Inlet.  Each
season the Zone Championships are
held at a different Centre in the Zone.
This season we are hosting “Zone” here
at Kiama on the 11th and 12th December
2010.  Only athletes from U/7 and up are
eligible to compete  at the Zone
Championships.  Athletes are
encouraged to attend and compete in
this event.
Entry is free and it’s a great
experience, not only for the athletes, but the parents as well.  Athletes of all abilities can enter.  This is a terrific chance to put the skills learnt at Centre on Friday nights into practice.  Download the entry form
here.

Entries close Friday 26th November 2010 so make sure you get your entry in at the Canteen this week.

First Orientation Day Complete
11-09-2010
Amber heads up the back straight in the Under 9 Girls 400m
Kiama Little Athletics 2010-11 season got off to a great start last Saturday on a picture perfect morning after the recent gale force winds and driving rain.

It was fantastic to see so many new faces joining Little Athletics for the first time.  Athletes from Tiny Tots right through to the U/17 Age Group enjoyed the first events of the season.

Saturday was the first of three "Orientation Days" that are designed to give athletes and parents the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the various events. They also give the parent helpers a chance to learn how to measure, record and assist at events.

It's not too late to join in the fun and bring your kids along.  Registrations are still being taken on Saturday mornings from 8:30am at the Kiama Leisure Centre Playing Fields.  Uniforms can also be purchased at this time.
Annual General Meeting
09-04-2010
The 31st Kiama Little Athletics AGM was held on Friday 9th April.  Several members of the previous Executive did not stand for re-election resulting in some changes to the Committee for the 2010-11 season.

Unfortunately we were unable to fill the position of Uniform Officer and welcome nominations for this role.

In a pleasing development it was tremendous to see some new faces come on board.

Season Starts September 11th
06-09-2010
Kiama Little Athletics' 2010-2011 season will commence at 9:00am on Saturday 11th September.  The Centre is looking forward to another succesful season.  Don't be concerned if you missed the Registration Days.  We will continue to take registrations during the season but ask that you arrive half an hour prior to the sheduled start time.  Come and join the fun!
Orientation Days Completed
25-09-2010
Last Saturday saw the third and final Orientation Day successfully completed.  Athletes and parents have now had the opportunity to experience all the events offered in the three (3) week rotating program.  In doing so those that are new to the Centre have also become familiar with, not only the events, but the manner in which club meets are run.

We currently have in excess of two hundred (200) athletes registered with the Centre for the fifth successive season.  Registrations are still being taken so if you are interested in joining come down this Saturday around 8:30am.

Point score competition commences next week so make sure you are there at 9:00am sharp so we can get away on time.  Don't forget that the aim of the Centre’s point score is to encourage all athletes to improve their own personal best efforts.  It does not award points for winning but for improving.
The Tiny Tot Girls (above) obviously enjoyed this 100m sprint.  Christian (right) gets gets plenty of height in the Under 6 Boys Long Jump..

The Mid South Coast Zone Championships have been postponed due to the waterlogged condition of the track.

More than 40mm of rain fell in less than four hours in Kiama this afternoon.  As a consequence sections of the track and field areas are covered with pools of water.  Kiama Council closed all grounds mid afternoon.  The forecast is for more rain and the track cannot possibly be fit for competition this weekend.

The Mid South Coast Zone Championships have now been rescheduled to the weekend of the 29th and 30th of January 2011.

Further details relating to the rescheduled event will be published in the near future.

Zone Championships - Change In Venue
31-12-2010
The 2010-2011 Zone Championships have been rescheduled to the weekend of the 29th and 30th January 2011.

The Kiama Leisure Centre Playing Fields are not available on this weekend due to a previous booking by the South Coast Cricket Association.  An attempt to move this cricket match was unsuccessful due to the lack of a suitable alternate venue.

As a consequence the rescheduled Zone Championships have been moved to Shoalhaven High School, Park Road, Nowra.

Please note that entries have been re-opened as a result of Zone being rescheduled.
New entries and/or changes to events for existing entries will be accepted.
The revised closing date for entries at the Kiama Centre is Friday 14th January 2011.

Kiama Little Athletics would like to publicly thank the Shoalhaven Centre for their generous offer of assistance and an alternate venue for the Zone Championships.

There will be no Little Athletics on Friday 28th January due to the rescheduled Zone Championships.  This carnival was originally scheduled for mid December 2010 but had to be postoned due to rain.

Presentation
25-03-2011
Joan Blair with Dean Blair Memorial Trophy winner Jasper Arnold (centre), Ella Patterson (left) and Matthew Cordell (right).
Kiama Little Athletics 2010-2011 season came to a conclusion last Friday evening with the annual presentation held at Kiama Leagues Club.  The Centre’s highest accolade, the Dean Blair Memorial Trophy, was awarded to Under 6 athlete Jasper Arnold.  In second place was Matthew Cordell (Under 8) with third place going to Ella Patterson (Under Under 8).

Charlotte Bett (Under 9) was the recipient of the Coaches Award for the most improved athlete.

The Centre would like to thank all the volunteers who helped make this season such a success.  The Committee recognises the fact that without you, our club could not function.  We trust that you and your children enjoyed the season and hope to see you back again in September 2011.

Don't forget the Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday 6th April at Kiama Leagues Club commencing at 7.30pm.  Little Athletics, more than any other sporting code, relies on volunteers.  Please consider giving some of your time to keep this Centre “running”.
